That all sounds like a 'beautiful relationship'.

BTW - Have you had your "Shop Guy" look into installing a Criterion Barrel on a U.S. Krag?

Yes. He is quite familiar and has installed a number of them for local people wanting to shoot CMP vintage military matches. On American Krags with right hand threads of course.

He would be a popular guy on the KCA Forum!

Can you explain the process for the 'finish' chambering on the Criterion barrels? (I'm trying to get my head around that).

The Criterion Krag barrels are supplied threaded and have the extractor cut and the front sight dove tail and rear sight screw holes drilled and tapped. And have a timing witness or alignment mark like the originals.

My gunsmith says the ones he has installed are precision and install up to the witness mark every time. I will ask about the chamber reaming required.

Maybe we should move this thread to US Krags.

I talked to our gunsmith about finish reaming the chamber on the Criteron replacement .30 Cal barrels. Very simple to complete the fitting. In some cases he said the chamber did not require any final reaming at all. In a few cases he said they finish with a final chamber reamer inserted and rotated a few light turns by hand to complete the fitting.

ButlersRangers,
I have no doubt you could install a criterion barrel yourself. If I remember right you made or borrowed a receiver wrench and did a barrel swap. The chamber can be finished reamed on a barrel/receiver assembly. No need to disassemble it just worry out a little to make the go gauge fit. Just remember to always turn it in the forward direction even when pulling it out, never reverse when it is in contact with metal.
Here is the rig I used. http://www.kragcollectorsassociation.co ... 232#p33232
I would loan it to you anytime.
