Criterion Barrel on a U.S. Krag

I talked to our gunsmith about finish reaming the chamber on the Criteron replacement .30 Cal barrels. Very simple to complete the fitting. In some cases he said the chamber did not require any final reaming at all. In a few cases he said they finish with a final chamber reamer inserted and rotated ...

Criterion Barrel on a U.S. Krag

The Criterion Krag barrels are supplied threaded and have the extractor cut and the front sight dove tail and rear sight screw holes drilled and tapped. And have a timing witness or alignment mark like the originals. My gunsmith says the ones he has installed are precision and install up to the witn...

Criterion Barrel on a U.S. Krag

Yes. He is quite familiar and has installed a number of them for local people wanting to shoot CMP vintage military matches. On American Krags with right hand threads of course.

Re: 1894 norwegian krag in .22 cal

Very early in my Norwegian Krag collecting career I was shown a Norwegian Krag receiver with a big chunk broken out of the receiver ring. The gunsmith that showed it to me said two young shop helpers were attempting to take off a Norwegian barrel and really horsed it with a long cheater bar. - Right...

Re: 1894 norwegian krag in .22 cal

Here are photos of the Norwegian Guttekarabin or boys training rifle in .22 Cal so we can see the action and .22 chamber arrangement. The receiver of this rifle was badly modified when I acquired it and required replacement. So it is not the original 1907 dated receiver. The stock was also heavy mod...

Re: Real ‘98 carbine?

Agree, No front or rear sight info would be a red flag. I can read the Serial Number as 123434.

Not very often anymore that someone sells a collectable without full knowledge of its value, but maybe someone just rang the bell on a real winner.

Re: Bench rest shoulder - ouch!

An old Army rifle coach trick that was sometimes used on the range to get a new soldier over the dreaded .30 cal recoil was to put his canvas canteen cover with its wool liner over the rifle butt stock. It is not pretty, but it was an acceptable field expedient recoil pad.
<img style="max-width...

Re: Now for something completely different

Another closet 8MM Lebel Berthier shooter speaks out.

For a long time I have scrounged the odd (old) partial box of Remington UMC ammo at gun shows. Pulled them apart for the brass and 170 Gr 8MM factory bullets. Tried the 198 Gr BTHP bullets for the Military load. Yikes! way to stiff for...

Opp's, gas check version is the photo. It must have been the voices in my head channeling Harry Pope.
