Re: Load Suggestions

I don't suppose you have a velocity reading for that load? Hornady manuals are extremely conservative with the Krag, 180gr projectiles. 10th edition states maximum charge is 35.1gr with a 2100 fps velocity for H4895. Now. . . in an apples to apples comparison, the Hornady manual states that IMR 4064...

Hi Mike,
Is this a modern rifle load, or an antique load?

Re: Long Road from last December

I have not slugged the bore.
I'm also not planning on adding another powder.
I have IMR 4064, Varget, and H4895.
Those powder are all cross compatible with my .308 & .223 rifles, so one of them will become my Krag powder.

Re: Long Road from last December

I do not hunt, my goal is best possible accuracy. I was able to develop a 1.5 MOA load for my Mini 30 with Hornady 123gr SST's & H4198, and my 52gr Sierra HPBT matchking Mini 14 handloads are getting close to MOA with Varget, and 1.5 MOA with 52gr Hornady's & H4895. The Krag is still a new platform ...

Long Road from last December

Hi all, last year I came onboard looking for a replacement stock. Got it, installed it, and began handloading. I learned that my rifle had a Lyman sight system, and figured out why the previous owner sold the gun. The stupid thing was shooting 1' low at 50 yards even at maximum sight adjustment. (I ...

Re: New to Krag's, already need a new stock.

There were two whoopdeedoos.
You can see the little "triangle" whoops, when the Dremmel slipped out of the channel, and then a tiny little nick at the top.<img style="...

Re: New to Krag's, already need a new stock.

After getting one of those two stocks (Thank you again!!)
. . . Spent about 45 minutes going at the wood with various Dremel cutting and sanding bits, getting the action to plunk into the stock.
Made a nice little whoopdeedoo in the wood while doing it, but the action beds in perfectly.<b...

The more I dug into the old stock, the more it is not worth repairing.
At some point, a P.O. cut the wood behind and thusly eliminating the rear barrel band.

I'm not a gunsmith, but I do understand quite a bit about stress points.
Without that band, when the cartr...

Re: New to Krag's, already need a new stock.

Thank you all for the information.

Going after FedEx is a non starter. The box that the seller used was not what I would consider as acceptable, and neither was the method of packing.
It has a low crush strength, and was unbraced.
I would not have shipped anything breakable in...
