Re: Model 1892 Krag

And I would go even further by recommending bronze wool instead of steel wool.
Nice 1892/96 !

Re: Need Advice on Rifle and Pricing

I'd have passed on that rifle as well. You'd have trouble getting your $500 back out of this gun when the screw holes finally really bug you.
It's still possible to run into decent rifles for $700-750.

Re: Bolt question for M1892/96 and M1896 rifles

I am more interested in the "correctness" aspect of the bolt/rifle question. For instance, would Springfield Armory have utilized this earlier bolt in a 1892/96 conversion or a re-build of an M1896 ?<br /><br />My m1896 is stamped "MODEL 1896"<br /><br />BTW, (My 1898s all have t...

Bolt question for M1892/96 and M1896 rifles

I have 6 Krags, all in full military livery, original finishes, with all side cartouches, "circled-P", etc. All were acquired from local gun stores within the last 20 years or so. (not directly from a collector)<br /><br />My question pertains to the bolts in my M1892/96 (serial 7177) and ...

For the money, I think you did fine for an M1896 Krag.
I like it !

Re: US M1892/96 rifle. correct forward barrel band ?

The stock is definitely not an upgraded / modified 1892.
It does has the correct '96 bolt root configuration and contour.

So, if this stock cartouche is NOT 1898, then what might it be?
(And i think i'll take that advice, and just leave the rifle as it is.)

Re: US M1892/96 rifle. correct forward barrel band ?

Actually, I'm not positive of the last digit in the date stamp, as the side stock cartouche is worn and somewhat difficult to make out. (the wrist "P" is much crisper.)<br /><br />The stock does not appear to be a modified '92, as it has no trace of a filled cleaning rod channel. The toe i...

US M1892/96 rifle. correct forward barrel band ?

Hi,<br /><br />i have a US M1892/96 rifle. Serial 7174. (Still has the early first style bolt body with the parallel sided guide rib)<br />The side cartouche is dated 1898.<br /><br />My question: what would be the correct front barrel band style? It currently has the band style with the milled off ...
