Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

I'm not certain, but it looks like a participant here might be confused about ogive nomenclature. Perhaps some text from Hornady's website copy and a rough sketch will help - 30 Cal .308 160 gr FTX® https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/30-cal-308-160-gr-ftx-30-30-win#!/ Patented Flex Tip® Bullet Te...

Re: Inherited rifle

. . . is it possible that it did not go in for the arsenal rebuilds?
Yes
Any big step up in value if has never been rebuilt?
No, considering the visible corrosion on receiver/sideplate and the chipped handguard.

Re: Winchester-Western late corrosive ammo

butlersrangers - I believe, similar match ammo was, at one time, available in .30-40 (?).
I suspect W-W .30/40 match ammo was discontinued before N-C priming was adopted generally around 1930 - but wouldn't be terribly surprised if that's not right.

Re: Trust Your Nose!

I have experienced similar failures to fully ignite when working up loads with dense spherical powders in medium military rifle cartridges. In every instance this was a result of charges insufficient to develop enough pressure/heat to light up the entire charge. The cure was simple: shovel in enough...

Re: Picked up a new toy

. . .I noticed your mention of chargers rather than clips. Something like the Krag chargers? In proper British usage, "charger" is the word for a multi-cartridge holder that doesn't remain in the magazine after loading. "Clip" designates a holder that stays in the magazine, becoming an essential pa...

Re: Odd Behavior

Are you sure that's a 140-grain bullet in the photo? (Looks like 160.) I can't recall ever meeting a 140 round-nose 6.5 anywhere - but am eager to become enlightened.

Re: Need Advice on Rifle and Pricing

Ouch!
If you can get it cheaper and enjoy selling parts, you might make good money on the wood and barrel. (If bore is excellent, I'd pay $300+ for those bits!). Collector value as-is has been destroyed by the receiver molestation.
